If you have a stalker:

You have a right to go to police. You can get an apprehended violence order in Australia if you want.

Download crime recording apps like incident genie to make reporting to police quicker with typing or video. You can video the dangerous incident with this app. Apps can only be downloaded via the App Store onto your mobile phone.

Travel with another person and avoid traveling at night if possible. If you travel at night, travel in groups or in a crowded area with lots of people that’s well lit with security cameras. Example: a hospital, restaurant, cinema, police station.

Buy a solar powered, water proof motion sensor light for security. They’re affordable (cost is around $29 from Dick Smith Electronics) and a great way to spot anyone coming.

Buy an emergency whistle if you want - if the stalker tries to assault you, blow the whistle so people will come to help.

Consider buying security cameras or a pet dog or pet geese for your home to protect you.

Carry a light bag, wear comfy clothes and wear comfortable shoes so you can run from the stalker.

If the stalker tailgates you, drive to the nearest police station in the city, keep your car doors locked, and don’t speed.

If the stalker tailgates you in the country drive to the biggest police station that calls redirect to. For the Eurobodalla Shire in NSW Australia, that’s Batemans Bay police station. Once you arrive at the police station, beep your car horn to let the police know to come out.

Tell people never to give out your mobile phone number to anyone without checking with you first.

Tell your local hospital, friends, family and workplace about the stalker’s name, appearance, age etc so they don’t tell the stalker your address or phone number.

Vary your route to work or home. Go home by a different route at a different time.

Block the stalker’s number on your phone. Or you can write down their number in a safe place under the name Stalker.

Keep a written record or screenshots of threatening messages, numerous phone calls from the stalker as evidence in case you go to court or the police.

The record of messages can be kept online, on your phone or on iCloud.
Take a screenshot of these messages by pressing the on button and the home button at the same time on your iPhone. This will save the screenshot to your Camera app.

Tell your bank, real estate agent, neighbours, classes, hobby groups, swimming class, aerobics class, tafe, University, school so they don’t tell the stalker where you are. This is to prevent the stalker from getting your address or phone number.

Get your phone number listed as private in the phone book. Ask your telephone company (Telstra, Optus, Vodafone etc) or your local council for help in doing this.
