I'm thinking of cross posting book reviews of my favourite books here! My book reviews are mainly on the Storygraph website. They used to be on Good Reads, but I find Storygraph much easier to use and read.

I'd post reviews on Amazon again like I used to, but I'm having trouble with logging into my Amazon account.

I can still post reviews on Barnes and Noble's websites too, if I've bought a book from there and if I've already finished the book. :)

I'm guessing the United States Barnes and Noble lets you post a book review even if you didn't buy it from them. Because I had a lot of trouble posting a review on the Australian Barnes and Noble website until I actually bought a book there.

How many picture icons do I have? Not many, but enough to be happy with them. They're made by other artists, not by me. You can see which artist made which icon if you go to the icon section of my Dream Width profile.

I like them all, including the ones of characters from the Demon's Lexicon series. Those icons are really beautiful. Plus Sin and Mae are cool. :)

I like the Tamora Pierce quotes icons too. They're from her Tortall adventure fantasy books, which are some of the best Middle Grade books I've ever read. The characters are likeable, and they take good care of each other. Plus they have witty banter, and say and do hilarious stuff.

Dracula

I know most people are posting smart, thoughtful things on Dracula, but my main thoughts right now are: does Jonathan Harker get the paprika recipe or not? Do Jonathan and his friends have to deal with Quincey Junior (Arthur and Lucy's son) being a vampire? And Mina's vampire powers don't return? She just stays human?

My thoughts on the Wil and Sim (non canon) ship/romantic pairing from the Kingkiller Chronicles:

I like it. It's so cool! They hang out as friends, and become best friends. They either help our beloved Kvothe with his shenanigans, or get him out of trouble. Wil and Sim would make a great couple.

They respect each other and have fun. Their banter is cool. What's not to like?

They're just so very cute together. They have a healthy and kind love, a quiet love where they take care of each other and have fun. Sim has so much unhappiness and grief in his life, and Fela makes him happy. There. I said it. And he's not the sort of unhealthy dick who places all expectations on his girlfriend to be his therapist, sole emotional support and servant - he treats her like an equal because he thinks women should be allowed to work, study and choose who they marry. He has healthy friendships with Wil and Kvothe.

And Sim makes Fela happy too. Unlike some of the other university students (*cough* Ambrose! *coughs), he doesn't see her as sexy fodder or as being lesser than the wealthy students.

I like it. It's adorable, and they kind of match! Devi has a great sense of humour and fun, and Mola is so serious. Devi would make her laugh and make her happy. Mola would help Devi develop more empathy for people, I think. They'd both rescue Kvothe, Wil and Simmon from trouble and Mola would have fun talking about magic, maths and medicine with Devi. Plus I think they'd look good together.

This entry is scheduled to appear on my blog on 25th February 2019.

Thoughts on the Kingkiller Chronicles’ novels’ female character Devi:

I’m pretty sure the song Get over you describes Devi’s feeling on Ambrose accurately. He really does frustrate her and drive her up the wall, and Ambrose thinks he knows a lot more than women (well, he’s a know it all and exceptionally nasty to people of all genders, but he seems to despise women more than men). Note: this isn’t directed at men I know at work, school, church. If you think that’s untrue, that’s your issue).

I think Devi and Fela would be a sweet couple if Fela wasn’t in a relationship with Sim. Devi is cheeky and deadly to other people, but she’s always sweet towards Fela. Thoughts?

This live journal blog entry is scheduled to appear on this blog on 24th January 2019. I’ll cross post this to my tumblr blog too.

It’s a theory on the character Denna from Patrick Rothfuss’ fantasy fiction novel series The King Killer Chronicles. The first two books The Name of the Wind and The Wise Man’s Fear are already published. Book 3, Doors of Stone isn’t out yet.

There are side stories too, such as The Slow Regard of Silent Things (about Kvothe’s friend Auri) and the short story The Lightning Tree (about Kvothe’s fae student Bast).

I think Denna is being abused by Master Ash whether she’s being trained in martial arts or not.

I’ve trained in martial arts years ago and martial artists aren’t legally allowed to bash you as part of training until you’re crying or until you black out and lose consciousness.

The Cthaeh tree tells Kvothe that the last thing she thinks about before blacks out from her patron’s beatings is Kvothe.

There’s a domestic violence video online (I’ll look for the video) run by DV therapists that mentions the last thing victims of violence think about before they lose consciousness are their loved ones.
