Amnesty International has discovered there has been white phosphorous used by both sides of the war in the Gaza Strip. White phosphorous has burned, killed and injured civilians in the Gaza Strip. It is a weapon that stays harmful long after it has been used. While white phosphorus is not a prohibited weapon under the laws of war, Amnesty International considers its use in densely-populated civilian areas a form of indiscriminate attack and a possible war crime. And our experts found these shell remains and other weapons all over Gaza — on the streets, on school playgrounds, in hospitals and in people's homes.

In fact, white phosphorus was still burning in residential areas throughout Gaza days after the ceasefire came into effect on January 18th — up to three weeks after these artillery shells had been fired.We urgently need your support to continue our campaign to investigate possible violations of the laws of war by Israel, Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups during the recent conflict, put pressure on the U.S. State Department to investigate the misuse of U.S.-made weapons in Gaza, and impose a global arms embargo on all parties in the conflict until a full investigation has been completed.
