When selecting potted plants for a balcony, make sure the plants are resistant to wind, strong rain and sunny weather. Pick native plants (ask your nursery gardener for advice) or use drought tolerant plants like cactus, desert grasses or bamboo.
Buying fully grown plants in pots can be good for beginner gardeners as fully grown plants are much stronger than plants that aren’t fully grown.
Indoor plants tend to prefer shade and might not grow so well outdoors.
Roses tend to get black spots on their leaves in humid weather. You can buy products to treat rose diseases like black spot- ask your local garden nursery about these products.
Place your plants in large pots (larger than 20 x 20 cm) if they’re on a balcony. This will make it harder for balcony winds to tip the pot plant over.
