Sophie's mum in Howl's Moving Castle

sunlit_music Some people are thinking that Sophie's mum should have been with Sophie at all times, and that she didn't spend enough time with her daughter. Which is really weird. From what I can tell, Sophie's mum seems like a really good mum. She involves Sophie and asks if Sophie wants to come with her out on walks, but she doesn't get mad or mean if Sophie says no. Also, Sophie is an adult. By then, she didn't need her mum to hover around her as much.
I can't imagine Howl (Sophie's future husband) reacting well if Sophie's mum would spend time with Sophie 24/7 like some people want. He's already demanding and fussy enough as it is.
As for the people who think Sophie's mum is stupid, I don't think she's stupid. I think she's outmatched by someone as scary as Madame Suliman. The movie can't make her or the other characters too smart and powerful to defeat Madame Suliman. Otherwise the film would have been over in 5 minutes, and there would have been no film.
