DIMINISHED CHORDS IN SAD MUSIC, JAZZ AND CHRISTIAN GOSPEL MUDIC:
Diminished triad chords can sound sad or emotional. They’re often used in jazz or Christian Gospel music.

TRIAD CHORDS:
A triad chord is made up of three notes - intervals number one, three and five of a heptatonic seven note scale.

WHAT IS A MUSICAL SCALE?
A scale in western music theory is a group of musical notes, played from the lowest pitch to the highest pitch.

WHAT IS AN OCTAVE:
An octave is eight musical notes played from the lowest to highest pitch.

WHAT DOES HEPTATONIC MEAN?
Hepta means seven. Tonic in this case means musical notes (pitches).

HOW ARE MUSIC SCALES PLAYED IN EUROPEAN MUSIC?
Major, minor and harmonic seven note scales are played from left to right on your piano. These scales are used in European music.

Please note that there are many heptatonic seven note scales around the world that contain different musical notes. These scales are played differently from the scales in Western music.

HOW TO PLAY A TRIAD CHORD:
First note of a triad chord - interval number one. The first note in a seven note scale.

Second note of a triad chord - interval number three. The third note in a seven note scale.

Third note of a triad chord - interval number five. The fifth note in a seven note scale.

HOW TO PLAY A DIMINISHED TRIAD CHORD:
The diminished triad chord involves flattening the the second and third notes (notes (intervals) number three and five) by moving down by one semitone. One semitone equals a half step.

C major heptatonic seven note scale: C, D, E, F, G, A, and B.

Intervals for the C major heptatonic seven note musical scale:

C - interval one

D - interval two

E - interval three

F - interval four

G - interval five

A - interval six

B - interval seven.


For example, the C major triad chord:

The notes for this triad chord are C, E and G.

1st note of C major triad chord - C. (interval number one in the C major seven note scale).

2nd note of C major triad chord - E. (interval number 3 in the C major seven note scale).

3rd note of C major triad chord - G. (interval 5 in the C major seven note scale).

To play the C major diminished triad chord, flatten E and G into E flat and G flat.

Play C, E flat and G flat.
