Hi everyone,

Amnesty International has exposed human rights abuses in US immigration detention facilities. Please urge the Dept of Homeland Security to fix the inhumane US detention system here:

The following text is from Amnesty international USA website:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"THE FACTS:

-Tens of thousands of people languish in U.S. immigration detention facilities every year

-Hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars are being used to hold these people for months—sometimes years—in detention. The people detained include lawful permanent residents, undocumented immigrants, asylum seekers and survivors of torture and human trafficking.

- accountability is almost nonexistent. People in detention often lack treatment for their medical needs. 74 people have died while in immigration detention over the past five years.

- Many people in immigration detention do not have a lawyer, but also lack adequate access to information on their rights and how to make their own legal claims. Amnesty International discovered that DHS uses shackles on detainees when not justified. "

Hi everyone,

This global economic crisis is absolutely devastating. Because of this, I’ve just signed a global emergency petition calling on leaders meeting at the G20 summit in London to agree on a global rescue package that puts people first.

Avaaz is launching an emergency petition to the London Summit -- it will be delivered direct to summit officials and leaders and in a thousands-strong march this weekend, so follow this link to add your voice:

World leaders are meeting at next week’s London G20 Summit to tackle the crisis -- we desperately need them to agree to a bold global rescue package to boost and change the global economy, and kick start an environmentally friendly recovery.

Fighting the economic crisis calls for a powerful, coordinated rescue package where governments agree to make funds available to prevent weak emerging economies from collapsing. We must call on governments to cooperate in order to properly regulate global financial markets and make institutions like the International Monetary Fund more democratic.

The petition will be delivered by many thousands of people marching through central London before the summit, carrying our global message and numbers to the leaders and the media.

Thanks!
